Thanks to John Hawks' cool Anthropology weblog for posting a reference to a Chinese newspaper with an article on some potential clues on the search for the Peking Man bones; it also includes a statement from the last man who saw the boxes before they disappeared in 1941, presumably while being shipped across the Pacific Ocean.
